Product variants

Super grains are available at present, but usually now go to the bio fuel industry. Supergrains are a natural moist co-product from the manufacture of grain spirit at the Cameronbridge Distillery.

It is a highly nutritious feed for all ruminant stock, being rich in natural protein, energy and yeast residues. Supergrains are principally comprised of the non-starch parts of wheat grains, which have undergone a cooking stage as part of the distillation process, which greatly enhance the digestibility of the product.

Supergrains provide an excellent source of both energy and protein. An additional useful benefit is the oil content which further boosts the energy levels of Supergrains. This superior nutritional profile allows Supergrains to replace some concentrates in the total ration and is particularly useful in silage-based dairy rations. It will also provide great benefit when fed with cereals in beef rations.Since there is a high level of copper in Supergrains, the product should only be fed to Sheep under professional advice.

Limits to Usage

Pay careful attention to mineral supplementation. The copper level is usually between 30 - 90 mg/kg making it generally unsuitable for feeding to sheep. Magnesium levels are low. Product is treated with propionic acid before leaving the distillery and is not suitable for organic rations.

Storage / Processing

Either feed in a relatively short period of time after delivery (2 - 3 weeks) or store in a sealed clamp. If clamping, allow grains to cool for 24 hours before sealing it.

Supergrains should be ensiled in anaerobic conditions. It should be consolidated to exclude all air, rainwater and other contaminants. This should be done immediately after delivery and then be tightly sheeted. The elimination of air by compacting and tightly sheeting the product will allow storage for many months.

Material to have been stored in compliance with DEFRA code of practice for the control of salmonella.

Feeding rates are estimates, and other factors, such as animal health and environment, can have a greater impact on how animals perform. There is no guarantee that animals will perform as expected if fed the suggested rates. Rations should be balanced to provide enough energy and protein for animals, and they should include enough forage to keep the rumen healthy. Animals also need access to fresh water at all times.
